Equal Opportunity Act 1984 review

Discussion Paper

During an Assembly Estimates Committee hearing on 23 May 2019, WA Attorney General, Honourable John Quigley announced that the WA Law Reform Commission is preparing a discussion paper that would hopefully be released for public consumption by the end of May or in early June. 
The Attorney General said it would be the first stage of the review and it wuold cover part VI of the Act - General exceptions to this Act. 
These exceptions include acts done under statutrory authority, charities, voluntary bodies, and the employment and enrolment practices of religious education institutions.

Terms of Reference

The Law Reform Commission has published the Terms of Reference for the review of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.

Included in those terms is the burden of proof, inclusion of vilification on multiple grounds and functions of the Commissioner for Equal Opportunity.

The Review

WA Attorney General, Honourable John Quigley MLA has announced the WA State Government will review the Equal Opportunity Act 1984, which will we done through the WA Law Reform Commission in October 2018.
