Working together to close the gap in remote WA
During a recent visit to the north of the State the Commissioner for Equal Opportunity, Yvonne Henderson saw improvements in government services, but she said that there is much more to be done.
The Commission hosted a series of forums throughout the Kimberley region to provide communities the opportunity to hear from their service providers and give feedback on their experiences.
Some of the issues raised by local people included contracting locals to undertake work in the community, providing more help for those using the Patient Assistance Travel Scheme and the lack of Indigenous intertpreting services.
Representatives from the Departments of Housing, Health, Child Protection and the WA Police attended the forums in Derby, Looma, Fitzroy Crossing, Mowanjum, Halls Creek and Broome.
